Phase B - Business Architecture

Objectives

  1. Develop target business architecture
  2. Identify Architecture Roadmap components by looking at gap between baseline and target business architectures

Approach

  1. General - Business Architecture is prerequisite to other architectures
  2. Developing the Baseline Description - Use existing architecture documentation. Can include missing capabilities, new value streams, etc.
  3. Applying Business Capabilities - Map capabilities to orgs, value streams, IT, etc. Relationship maps and heat maps are common tools.
  4. Applying Value Streams - Offer context into why capabilities are needed
  5. Applying the Organization Map - Relationship between key orgs. Provides org context for the EA effort.
  6. Applying Modeling Techniques - Can use various models like: activity models, use-case models, class models, etc. Provide insight into how the org operates.
  7. Architecture Repository - Consider resources from the repository
